Restorative or Therapeutic Yoga - for those with chronic stress or chronic pain problems such as fibromyalgia or PSTD. There has been much research on how working with the breath can be of tremendous benefit for people but it is still a largely unused therapy. We'll practice yoga postures (asana), breathing techniques (pranayama), and experience guided meditations to relax and renew the body, mind, and spirit. Modifications are made for individual needs, using props such as blocks, blankets, and straps. Lots of special attention! This is a basic 12 week series, and you are encouraged to attend all sessions. Includes written material for practice at home. Class is geared toward beginners or people with experience but who have strayed from practice due to injury or illness.
Yoga can be used for the therapeutic purpose of improving lung function, increasing flexibility, and providing a more long term state of well being. You are invited to be a participant in the process, not just have a "treatment" prescribed for you. Your feedback is essential, as is your active and thoughtful approach to becoming more centered and whole. We will work with the chakras or energy centers of the body. If you choose to have an individual consultation we will perform muscle testing and range of motion to assess your individual needs. A unique program can be set up for anyone to address their special needs.

YOGA FOR SPIRIT: Soothe your spirit with guided meditations to focus on loving yourself, expressing compassion, peacefulness, or mindfulness.
YOGA FOR MIND: Practice breathing techniques and asanas (poses) to provide you with calming focus in your daily life. Challenge yourself and explore your limits and boundaries, to occasionally go beyond, and other times just to take notice. Acceptance is a vital part of yoga.
YOGA FOR BODY: students will receive a strong foundation in anatomy, helping understand how and why their muscles move. Achieve increased strength and flexibility regardless of your present fitness level. The greatest gift yoga has given me is physical flexibility, balance, inner growth, discipline, and joy in the present moment.
You can practice as you do the laundry, stand in Tadasana (Mountain pose) while waiting in the grocery line, breathe quietly through a dentist appointment, sit more elegantly and comfortably at home or at work.
Yoga is not limited to asanas or positions. It is a mind/body/spirit practice.
Julianne has studied for over 250 hours with Rod Stryker, Judith Hanson Lasater, Aadil Palkhivala, Shiva Rea, Alan Finger, and other master teachers; and is a certified instructor with Yoga Fit.
